Where Tech-Heads Trek to Toke.

Welcome to My Bong Runs Linux, a weblog and intermittent radio program dedicated to exploring, exposing, and pissing on technology and the world.

Ars Technica, on Daikatana, the Battlefield Earth of video games : "As a whole, Daikatana was like a visit to the secret level of Hell, the 10th plane. The one that even Dante himself was too scared to write about. It was just that bad."

I just looked through our access logs for the first time today, and we've got some pretty damn good traffic going. Thanks to all our readers/listeners for checking us out.

New episode is in the wings, coming out sometime this weekend, I promise. At this point, I'm the one holding it up 'cause I'm moving, so if Monday comes and there's no show, I give you permission to berate the fuck out of me.

creon and i were talking over icq late at night. i was debating posting this as a good idea that poses great security risks for less than competent sysadmins. then as a suggestion for an egregious example of FUD, he sent me this. however, the title of this page was more than a little reminiscent of a classic bit of webculture. so i opted to post the porn he sent me instead. enjoy!

Anyone who's looked at Linux for more than 5 minutes has seen The GIMP. But, how much do you know about this glorious program? How 'bout Tigert's page of Gimp's splash screen history? My favorite's the Red Meat parody, 1.13. And from Linuxartist.org there's every Gimp link known to humanity. And don't forget your gimp suit.

It's about friggin' time someone made this site. I know assholes who make up random rules like "blitz" and say that's how they do it in Jersey. Fuckin' Jersey.

Microsoft's 'Dot-Net' Strategy will fail soooo badly, it's gorgeous. It's everything Sun failed at, plus even more antitrust violations! Bill, you ignorant slut.

i ran into a little article in Fortune today (yes, i am a starfucker who would like to pretend that this shit has something to do with my reality [then again, doesnt that place me in the target audience for this pretentious little rag?]). it's got some interesting ideas, and it's definitely good to see linux and open source getting a little nod from outlets that are older and greyer than the old gray lady. the ideas are about as sound as a finance magazine can have about tech. the real fear/joy of this article is having microsoft give away windows. the way i see it, one of two things would happen in this case: 1) people realize that if both are free, linux is the overall better choice, or 2) microsoft never releases windows for free, linux continues as is, and other companies follow suit, and windows slowly disappears like the dinosaur it is.

ah, but we can only hope.

iMacaquarium - I called it, back in Episode 1. Punk.

Hey, Rhino and I have gotten together and written up a list of topics for the next show ... any suggestions? No, Battlefield Earth is NOT an option. Pick a different movie, pick Scientology, pick John Travolta's fat ass, pick anything but B.E.

We'll be recording within a week or so ... I'll be moving then. I need to find a connection, too.

Hey, some justice? Coming from Congress?! Hey, maybe decriminalization will happen after all.

But just to show that Republicans can make themselves look like assholes in the face of any landmark, they fight anti-hate crime legislation by saying "baby sitters kill more persons than do government-identified haters." Lynch mobs, or au pairs, who's the bigger threat?

while i'm in a loving mood, i must share with all of you Timmy Big Hands (and since you asked: yes, it is as silly as it sounds). from the same pituitary freaks that brought you MST3K. possibly the minnesota's greatest gift to the web (ok, maybe not the greatest), it's got everything from a serial novel, to sports news and of course, advertisements.

More Perl madness - the same group that brings you such great projects as Vorbis, an open-source (LGPL) MP3-killer, and cdparanoia, brings you the Moaning Goat Meter. Entirely Perl/Tk, this resource-meter/clock/moon-cycle/fish hogs more memory than Emacs. "Serious Pink Flamingo territory. For evil geniuses only." The site is hysterical to any true geek ...

I'm so fucking sick of Netscape and IE, everything I write has to consider their erratic idiosyncracies, and then ... and then there was Mozilla M16, the Russian automatic weapon of web browsers, and open source at that. Don't bother with Netscape's next Preview Release, it'll be M16 + AIM + Net2Phone and all the bloated crap AOL wants to smear all over the browser.

Love the standards, LOVE THEM!!

And now, the moment we've all been waiting for ... Microsoft must be broken in two. Thank every deity out there.

Sure, they're going to appeal, but dammit, on what grounds? Ultimately this will fuck them for a long time, whether they are split in the end or not. And if they are, I *love* the proposed format - OS and everything else. Cause really, would MSIE/Media Player/MSN/Outlook/etc. ever had a shot in hell if they weren't rammed down Windows users throats? Even after the umpteen security problems, service outages, games of catchup to technology leaders, etc.? Nope. Fuck them. Fuck them right in the ear.

Alright kids, we're on hiatus, moving into our respective apartments, new jobs, etc. We'll probably record a new episode in a week, so hold tight, "buds" ... listen to ep. 1-5, keep reading the weblog, and write us with ideas for our next episode. When we're all settled, we promise to give ya an overdue eargasm.
