Welcome to My Bong Runs Linux, a weblog and intermittent radio program dedicated to exploring, exposing, and pissing on technology and the world.

Guess what kids? We recorded a show tonight. Suffice it to say, this week's mission: Get a mormon stoned. The episode should be up shortly, when BladeEnc is done encoding.

Scientists make skin invisible! Saw the link on MetaFilter to this story in the Houston Chronicle. Apparently they made an invisible "window" in the skin of a rat where they could examine deeply into the tissue. Next they're gonna use lasers... wonder when they'll get to Hollow Man (from Brunching) level.

Fairtunes is a site where you can voluntarily pay musicians for the mp3s you have of theirs, rather than going through the RIAA/record-label. Pretty cool idea, I just hate people altogether, though, so I doubt it'll work. ;)

If you use Linux, you have to check out Galeon. It's a GTK/Gnome web browser (and nothing but the browser) based on Mozilla's engine, Gecko, but with a solid, simple interface not using XUL or CSS or any of that crazy stuff. It can also import your bookmarks, and has a bulging, pulsing pipe snake as it's throbber. Mmmm, throb.

Micro$oft porting to Linux! No, really, it seems the strategy is "using 'Office for Linux' as a bridge to Windows, like Mac Office" according to Slashdot. This is serious stuff. And now that the Gnome Foundation (incl. IBM and Sun) is being formed to take on M$ Office with an open-source office suite of it's own, things are getting interesting very soon, and I predict a migration. Weeeeeee ...

Symantec Announces Genome Defrag This is just too funny ... a new story on Segfault.org, a techie humor site, for those of you too focused on Jenni to have ever noticed it's link or slashbox on Slashdot.

Linux desktop software gets corporate backing
And Solaris is now going to use GNOME! Wow, go Miguel ... Hispanics representin' in cyberspace, yo. By the way, it's official, someone leaked AOL for Linux ... yup, that's right, now kernel hackers too can enjoy being disconnected and censored.

Developers of Linux Software Planning Assault on Microsoft. This is huge, kids ... all the big boys getting together, all working for GNOME, against M$! It's like something outta Braveheart.

Alright, so things are a little slow around here. Rhino is in Europe, taking a two-week romp around the imperialist breeding ground, and supposedly bringing back some good pictures of Amsterdam for us. We'll be recording another show when he gets back, and discussing the state of the EC, multilateral trade agreements, and massive bong hits. Damn it feels good.

Ooh, the big bad Emperor sent a Sith Lord after me. Ooh, I'm so scared. Ooh, I hope he doesn't attack me with his double-ended lipstick.

And we all need a postcard of a baby nursing on a goat ... or is he?!

Disturbing Auctions trolls the auction sites and finds the weirdest/dumbest/ugliest stuff people are selling, like a bull scrotum purse, or maybe some "genuine" ghost poop, for example.

This tech-heavy link from a university in Melbourne, Australia describes all the sneak-peek R+D stuff they did on M$ .NET ... and for the first time I could figure out what .NET is supposed to be. It's Java plus the Oracle Network Computer. No, really, it is. It's a virtual machine and platform, code is transferred over the internet, except they're trying for a language called C# (yes, that C-sharp) - it's such utter bullshit. And it took somebody working on this shit directly but not speaking for M$ to cut through the guano.
