3.31.2002 With Psychic Friends Like These … - The lawsuits pile up for Miss Cleo. By Dahlia Lithwick
" ...Since Miss Cleo is hectoring and hounding me, I thought I'd try to get in on the action. I'm mad about these psychic calls I didn't make. But while the claims against these companies range from false advertising to customer harassment, no lawsuit is charging her with the real scam: She's not a psychic." You know, this confused me too ... I thought they were suing her for not being a real JAMAICAN. posted by creon
3.29.2002 Slashdot | Yahoo Knows Best, Resets Users' Marketing Prefs
The article from Slashdot explains how to find your marketing prefs so you can disable the barrage of Spam coming your way. This has really ticked me off because of the effect it will have on the majority of users who *won't* check their prefs and find that, gosh, they signed me up for everything! Pain in the ass. posted by creon
3.14.2002 i was wandering through the net this morning, looking for a radio satire bit i havent thought about in years, when i coincidentally stumbled across Junction City (motto: Because Hyphens Connect). the site, and it's children, manage to swing a good combination of good design, whimsy, and activism. and even if they're not really advocating John Cusack for president, it's nice to entertain the idea of having an actor in the office who isnt a two-bit knockoff of Roy Rogers.

3.12.2002 Oh by the way... Rosie O'Donnell is coming out. Thanks a fucking bunch, Rosie. Not only did everyone who wasn't in severe denial know that already, but she's decided to come out after taping her last show, in conjunction with an autobiography that she's now plugging. "Now that you know I'm gay, read about the lesbian side I've kept hidden for fear of losing my gay-bashing demographic, despite endlessly blathering about every other fucking detail of myself on my show, in my new book!"

3.7.2002 i was planning on letting this go, i really was, but i just need to share this with the world: a googlewhack that is frightfully obvious and fully vindicates my hatred and ample spleen.
carrottop virtuosityAnd somehow, the fact that the only place on the internet where these two words appear together is in a rant by one of the rarely-employed people who wrote Once Bitten(1) ... well, it just warms my heart in ways that are easily misconstrued as gas. This is either a japanese advertisement, or a NyQuil- and Pokemon- induced hallucination which will haunt me for the rest of my life.
